Lisa Angle

Lisa Angle always possessed a vivid imagination, probably spawned from watching too much television while growing up in Santa Barbara, California. When in high school she became interested in computers while taking a Basic programming class taught on Commodore 64s. She went on to earn a master’s degree in Computer Based Education from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

But technology didn’t fulfill her creative spirit, so she began writing fiction and won First Prize in a CWC short story contest in 1993. She became involved with SLO NightWriters, and served as President from 1997 to ‘99. While living in San Luis Obispo she did marketing for the SLO Museum of Art, received a grant from the SLO Arts Counsel to write and produce a children’s play, and taught writing at Cuesta College. One of her students said, “Her attitude is positive, but realistic. I like the way she comments and makes the person still feel intelligent.”

Since moving back to Santa Barbara in 1999, she’s worked as stage crew for Ensemble Theatre, produced a weekly newsletter for the Santa Barbara County Film Commission (2004-08), and written articles for Montecito Journal, The Independent, and Examiner.com. As a Production Assistant at The Santa Barbara Channels (now TVSB) she learned video production, and produced videos for Association for Women in Communications, the SB Zoo, and the SB Writers Conference, plus she co-produced over 200 episodes of the talk show Literary Gumbo. Storytelling through film became very important to her. Her Ablitt House Journey documentary is available for free streaming, and the Thirty Years of Literary Excellence documentary she co-produced is available on Amazon Prime.

She served on the national board for the Association for Women in Communications (2014-19) and currently serves as the Chief Technology Officer for the Writers and Publishers Network.

Technology is still a large part of her life. She designs and maintains websites for authors as well as helping them navigate social media. One author client said, “Lisa Angle is a writer first, which is why she works so well with writers on the road to publication. She knows what we need to build and expand our platforms out here in cyberspace.” Her marketing skills are also employed by the Ojai Film Festival and the Ojai Art Center Theater.

Her love of the ocean and the outdoors is enriched by her involvement in the Channel Islands Naturalist Corps. As a part of this group she led hikes on Santa Cruz Island and talked to passengers on whale watch boats. See video below.
